I had know idea it would have a glossy finish.

My lockers are a flat finish, which is what I like. When we opened the bench, it was glossy. I haven't put it together yet b/c it's a new construction, but I was not happy with the finish.
I won't know for sure how it works together until we put the mudroom together.
I do like the color, just not the gloss compared to the rest of the finish.

All of our painted items are a flat finish. All of our stained pieces are covered in a semi-gloss polyurethane to protect the stain. As an option on some of our benches with seats or lids we offer either to paint them or stain them, Many pieces are sold with a stained top with the semi-gloss poly. I think when you get the unit put together, you will see that your bench (I can only guess that it was either butternut stain or walnut stain) covered in poly will be a great accent piece to your other furniture.
